Just wanted to say Tim, I LOVE how you are guiding us through Colossians. You are bringing a new perspective and passion to this deeply powerful book that makes me really look forward to Sunday nights. Thanks for that. — Jon
Tim, I'm also loving this study through Colossians. Thank you for sharing with us your heart and passion--it's contagious! I've got a new breath prayer from Colossians 3:17 now: "In Jesus' name." Breath prayers are good for me because I can remember them better throughout the day! Looking forward to continuing through Colossians! -Laurie
Great stuff Tim. In response to your question, "What does it (setting our minds on Christ in real life) look like?", I think we find at least some of the answer right there in chapter 1. In verses 9-11 Paul offers us a pathway to understanding. It kinda reads like a wisdom sandwich: we pursue divine understanding, which displays itself in God-honoring on-the-ground living, which leads to even more understanding.
In these few verses Paul seems to undermine the "being or doing?" debate by implying that wisdom (which is pretty much living life with a mind set on Christ) happens as we ponder, practice, and pursue. Which is another way of saying that being and doing feed and shape one another in an inextricable union.
sensing God has wooed us to submerge into this small town in a big city, this land of in-between, we're listening for God's voice as he speaks through the community of Golden Hill and one another, and we’re dreaming...
